Ever notice that the alphabet song, baa baa black sheep, and twinkle twinkle little star are all variations on the same song?

use protection

i got the new iphone this weekend.  the lines finally died down and i didn’t have to wait an icentury.  the process took all of 5 minutes and i started to receive txt messages moments later.  i must say that i’m impressed with the phone and all its beauty.  in fact, people often ask me if i plan to buy protection.  i shunned the apple care protection plan and i’m letting my iphone remain unwrapped to be in a state as apple intended, out there and in all its glory.

people who buy protective cases baffle me.  in an effort to keep their beautiful iphone scratch free, they use an ugly protective shell to hide the very surface they are trying to keep pristine and enjoyable.   it makes more sense to me to buy a case after your iphone has gotten all scratched up and over the hill.

this also goes for people who buy car bras to keep their car rock chip free and especially goes for people who leave the product stickers and protective films on their appliances.  no i don’t need to be reminded that my LCD is energy star compliant, thank you very much.

Wall-E

great movie, but i couldn’t help but think that it was one giant apple ad.  eve looks like an ipod, and the subtle apple references (startup noise, ipod tv, HAL = autopilot), in my opinion, were overdone.  still, great movie though, and for the unwashed masses, a great marketing win for Apple.

Apple, a green company.

Close But No Cigar

this post, is dedicated to S.N. for putting up with mr. dickhead

also, let me just preface this post by saying that there’s nothing else worse in the world than being disappointed when you’re 99% there.  this goes out to all you people who ever experienced being rejected when you were so sure you had it going your way.  in the famous words of daniel powter, “you’ve had a bad day”

it’s like going to the toy store for xmas, because your parents finally agree to buy you the toy that what you wanted all year. and then you run to the shelf where it’s supposed to be and it’s sold out.   and think, no, it can’t be, and you look around to see if it’s misplaced. and you ask the store to call other stores.  and then finally there’s nothing left that you can do, except give up.  and then you feel the tears of the cruel cruel world swell up against you and you can’t hold them back any longer, and just give in and let your sorrows wash your will-less soul away, down into the waterfall of despair.

point is, it’s way worst to be disappointed at 99% than it is to be from the start.  maybe the pessimists are onto something here.

What The Hippies Don’t Tell You about Tibet

More extraordinary, the PLA accomplished its mission in Tibet peacefully and without issue. A treaty was signed between the Tibetan elite and the PRC and they got along well for 5 years. That changed in 1956, however, whent the Communists, began implementing land redistribution. It should be noted that redistribution was not exclusive to Tibet but something that happened generally across all of China’s territory. This is the clear origin of the modern Sino-Tibetan conflict. The Tibetan rebellion was led by its elite with strong support from the American CIA (eager for some payback following America’s humiliation by China during the Korean War). What really kills me is nobody points this out. The original issue behind Tibet was not suppression of civil rights or a “genocide of culture” but the gentry and religous authorities’ opposition to land reform. The hippie slogan “Free Tibet” is completely facetious, the rebellion not having been about freedom, indepence, or human dignitiy, but about people losing power and trying to regain it.”

Deflation

so it’s options expiration today, i think the number of PUT options out there are propping the market up, pinning it…

the bond prices are going through the roof and the yield on the the 13 week treasury dropped to 0.3%!!!!  all time record low.  why would anyone want to put their money into something that yields 0.3%?  safety, or we have deflation coming…  gold, oil, metals, commodities all dropping
